Do you have a Facebook profile, page, or group? Facebook now makes it easier than ever to promote your pages. Effective June 29th, 2009 Facebook.com made available the ability to create a username for profiles, pages, and groups to make it easier for members to promote. Facebook has created a help section on the topic with eligibility information, etc...

I have a facebook, but im not going to create a username, what benefit is there?

Well, that's your choice. It's, just a more simplified method of sharing the url to your facebook profile, pages, and groups.

unfortunately if you dont have at least 100 fans you cant get the username

Yeah, I guess there are some drawbacks. They probably do that to prevent "squatters" from registering usernames, bogus accounts, etc...
